Nantucket Arts Council (NAC)
“The Nantucket Arts Council seeks to encourage creativity on the island, I don’t think we could do what we do, if these artists weren’t so marvelously generous.” Reggie Levine, President NAC
The Nantucket Arts Council is a collective group that supports and encourages those who strive to express themselves through creativity in the visual and performing arts.
Fifty Years of Theatre on Nantucket
In the winter of 1956 Nantucket was an isolated community with no television reception and infrequent movies. Entertainment options varied from a night out at the Mad Hatter or Cy’s Green Coffee Pot, to settling in for a rousing game of Yahtzee with the kids. But in November of that year the curtain rose on the first off-season production at Straight Wharf Theater: Heaven Can Wait. The informal Nantucket Players gave rise to the formal Theatre Workshop of Nantucket and community theater has stayed alive on the island ever since.
Color Relations
By Arlene M. O'Reilly Color is a natural element. It connects all that are aware of its power. Playing and experimenting with color is as natural as a child learning to speak or take his or her first steps. Harnessing color for use in symbolism is deeply rooted in all cultures. Color is primal. It can evoke emotion when combined with creativity, and is a powerful form of communication. Artists and designers live and die by this simple notion. They have known this, from the first "a-ha" experience of drawing on the cave walls in Alta Mira and Laxcou to designing Apple technology. This article is about color relations; how each unique individual sees color and how color is transformed from the paintbrush to the printed page.
